Flowers of the Elmwood
In one of the prettiest parts of Charlottetown, set well back from the street, sits Elmwood . . . filled with fine period furniture and hosted with grace and warmth.
Upper Valley Magazine, New HampshireIn 1986 when we purchased Elmwood we began to establish gardens on the property. There are now extensive areas planted with spring bulbs, perennials, many varieties of hosta, iris, day and Asiatic lilies, peonies, flowering shrubs, mosses and ferns, a shade garden, a green garden and new trees are being added to the Hawthorn, Yellow Plum, flowering Crabapple and others to further naturalize the perimeters. Carol brings the outside in with her beautiful arrangements and when our own blooms don’t suffice, her main supplier becomes Isobel at the local Farmer’s Market.
All Seasons
Each season offers a special treat on the grounds beginning with the shaded hidden entrance drive under the century old elm trees. Spring brings early bulbs, the flowering ornamental trees, our extensive perennial gardens, the shade garden, and open lawns through late summer to the explosion of golds and reds and rust in fall, followed by winter’s magical contrast of minilights reflecting in snow-covered walks and trees. Elmwood is a wonderful destination for all seasons and for all reasons.
